What you're saying really resonates with me. I've been disappointed with how many raw foods websites tout exotic, expensive, and over-hyped ingredients. I truly believe that a healthy raw foods lifestyle is possible using simple, local ingredients for the most part. I need more recipes and ideas but have been having a hard time finding any that use the foods available to me. It was really refreshing to hear someone else speaking out for a return to simpler raw foods. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :)

Comment on Kicking the Factory Food Habit

Best wishes on your new journey August 1st! :)
I also had very similar feelings and thoughts with regards to my raw food journey (i think it was in 2006 too, time just flies).
I KNOW what i want, but have a hard time doing it. processed and packaged is so much simpler some days and is an emotional outlet. i used to think that i HAD to make the time consuming faux-cooked things to make sure I didn't crave cooked. Now i realize that that is not needed, that extra stress that i put on myself to make the perfect uncooked recipe is what got me off the boat in the first place. as long as I keep adding fresh, clean stuff to my life, and slowly removing anything processed, including flour and sugar, i will be fine. But i need to accept that it doesn't always happen overnight, and not punish myself by giving up!

ALLISON'S RESPONSE: I am the same way! I know what I want but I guess I am just weak sometimes and have a hard time following through on my plans. I envision myself eating healthfully, imagine how I'll look and what I'll be able to do when I have more energy and stamina... then I screw up and eat something nonraw. But like you, I can accept that returning to 100% or high raw will not happen overnight. Any effort I make to eat more raw foods is beneficial, so I have to focus on that. I wish us both success!
Comment on Why This Raw Foods Enthusiast Rejects "Superfoods"

I'm not drawn to superfoods, but I know many who are and really feel that they are benefitting from them. We all want/need different things at different stages. It's good that you know what you do and don't want in your life, Allison!

Lots and lots of love to you,

Wendi
XOXOXO

Comment on Why This Raw Foods Enthusiast Rejects "Superfoods"

Good for you to know what you want girl. I have found myself feeling less than adequate at times when I hear of certain raw food gurus preaching the benefits of the next great superfood that everybody HAS to add to there diet. I think what you've shared is sound wisdom and I appreciate you taking the time to share.
xoxo....Penni

Comment on Kicking the Factory Food Habit

Well written. It is great that your roommate is pro raw, there is also the raw online communities for support (you know that). Sounds like you are moving on the right tract, just remember to stay true to what you need to be healthy.

Comment on Kicking the Factory Food Habit

Hey pretty lady!
I appreciate your posting this. I agree with so much of what you say. I began to feel much better as I slowly transitioned into raw. Removing the wheat, the dairy, the processed grains, and strangely enough, animal flesh was the last thing to go. Then as I added more whole foods to my meals, that's when I felt the most changed.
I always have something lying around on the kitchen counter that I can quickly stuff into my mouth to chew when I'm feeling stressed. I still need that sometimes, but not as often.
I'm so excited for you with your new "rawm-mate" situation. I hope this will enable you to continue on this new journey!
Love, Rawbin

Comment on Kicking the Factory Food Habit

Thank you for your honesty. When I attempted raw back in 2007, my results were not as dramatic as yours but I did notice that I had more energy. That one factor meant a lot to me. My downfall is my sweet tooth. When I as stressed, I reach for something sweet. This is my time to get out of the sweet rut and do more for my health.

Like you, I did the cooked/uncooked method. I hope to get back to a happy balance in my life. Thank you, again, for your honesty and your wonderful writing.

Comment on Me So PoMo

Hi Allison,

I am very glad that you have found something that works for YOU right now! That is more effective than struggling to stick to a program that doesn't work for you.

((hugs))
Sarah

Comment on Me So PoMo

One last entry to brighten your day with WW. My husband eats raw and has a sweet tooth. In many respects it makes my life easier because he supports my raw life. But, he was saying how easy it is to "eat everything he wants, whenever he wants, without gaining any weight," on a 100% raw program. I said, that's great for you, but you don't crave bread, noodles, rice or other processed carbohydrates. I can make a zillion different kinds of raw sweet treats for you but there really isn't a substitute for the feeling of digesting a comfort food. "Oh, but it is so easy," he says! "I eat like a king!"

I said, "that's why they don't let skinny people like you into Weight Watchers."
......
Then we had a really good chat about emotional eating and food addictions. Neither one of which he has issues with. Really, 'civilians' haven't a clue!
*many blessings on your road to self-discovery* Thank you for sharing your story!
